La dignidad humana antes y después del Tratado de Lisboa

En el mundo actual en el que vivimos somos muchos los que nos planteamos cómo puede hacerse más visible el derecho fundamental a la dignidad humana, aumentar las garantías para su protección y conseguir su total integración como uno de los principales objetivos de la Unión Europea. Para dar respuesta a estas preguntas profundizaremos en la noción de la dignidad humana. Una vez clarificado el concepto, desarrollaremos la dignidad humana como derecho y como valor detallando las diferencias entre el antes y el después de la incorporación de la Carta Europea de Derechos Fundamentales al Tratado de Lisboa y la repercusión que tiene sobre los ciudadanos europeos. De este modo procuraremos responder a la hipótesis planteada: ¿realmente se produce una modernización en el derecho a la dignidad humana que le permita adaptarse a la realidad del ciudadano europeo de hoy en día?

In today's fractured world, many ask how to make more visible the fundamental right of human dignity, how to increase guarantees for its protection and how to achieve its full integration as one of the main objectives of the European Union (EU). To answer these questions a deep analysis of the meaning and purpose of human dignity is required. Once the concept is clarified, we shall develop human dignity as a right and as a value by analysing the differences between the EU’s actions towards human dignity pre and post-Lisbon Treaty and the impact it has had on European citizens will take place. This articles will thus focus on answering the following question: has a significant upgrade taken place regarding Human Rights making them able to adapt to the reality of the lives of European citizens today?
