Bye bye, Reino Unido

El 23 de junio pasado los británicos votaron en referendum abandonar la UE. Esa decisión, por sí misma, no está teniendo el impacto económico que podría esperarse, lo cual se debe a la intervención de las autoridades para minimizar su impacto y que el Reino Unido aún no se ha activado el mecanismo formal de salida previsto por el artículo 50 del Tratado de la UE, algo que se producirá en 2017, antes de finales de marzo. Desde entonces y durante un plazo máximo de dos años, la Unión negociará con Reino Unido hasta alcanzar un acuerdo que defina la forma de su retirada. Previsiblemente los tres puntos principales de negociación -y conflicto- entre el Reino Unido y el resto de la UE serán: la contribución de Reino Unido al presupuesto común, el sometimiento de Reino Unido a las reglas que rigen el mercado común y la aceptación de la entrada de trabajadores desde el resto de la Unión.

On June 23 the British voted in a referendum to leave the EU. That decision, by itself, is not having the economic impact that could be expected, which is due to the intervention of the authorities to minimize their impact. Further the United Kingdom has not yet activated the formal exit mechanism provided by Article 50 of the EU Treaty, something that will occur in 2017 before the end of March. Since then and for a maximum period of two years, the Union will negotiate with the United Kingdom until it reaches an agreement defining the form of withdrawal. The three main points of negotiation - and conflict - between the United Kingdom and the rest of the EU are expected to be: the United Kingdom's contribution to the common budget, the UK's submission to the rules governing the common market and the acceptance of workers from the rest of the Union.
