El reconocimiento de la nacionalidad española a los sefardíes y su significado

Concluido el plazo legal para solicitar la nacionalidad española por los descendientes de sefardíes, conforme a la Ley 12/2015, y pendientes aún de tramitación muchas solicitudes, sobre todo tras la avalancha de las últimas semanas del plazo, podemos ya hablar de resultados exitosos. El número de nuevos españoles por esta vía va a ser considerable. Como lo va a ser el fortalecimiento de relaciones entre muchas de las personas e instituciones implicadas. El autor desgrana los beneficios ya generados y los que potencialmente pueden lograrse en el futuro no solo para los descendientes de sefardíes que obtengan la nacionalidad. También para las comunidades sefardíes en la diáspora, para España y para el propio mundo judío internacional. Destaca el esfuerzo y los méritos de diversas instituciones para conseguir estos resultados. Y hace una mención especial al respecto a los notarios que han tenido un protagonismo esencial y a la propia corporación notarial.

Now that the legal deadline stipulated in Law 12/2015 for descendants of Sephardic Jews to apply for Spanish nationality has expired, and with many applications still yet to be processed, especially after the deluge received in the final weeks before the deadline, the results can be described as successful. There will be a considerable number of new Spaniards by this means. The relationships between many of the individuals and institutions involved will also be strengthened. The author describes the benefits that have already arisen and those that may potentially arise in the future, and not only for the descendants of Sephardic Jews who obtain Spanish nationality. Sephardic communities in the diaspora, Spain and for the international Jewish community will also benefit. The article highlights the efforts and merits of various institutions in achieving these results. It also emphasises the work of the notaries who played a key role and notarial profession itself.
