La ínsula Barataria (unas anotaciones sobre utopías, literatura y “policía”)

El autor evoca la fundación de la ciudad costera argentina de Villa Gesell por parte del visionario Carlos Gesell, en parte bajo la influencia de la utopía trazada por su padre, el alemán Silvio Gesell, en el libro La isla milagrosa; una isla a la que precisamente da el nombre de Barataria. Desde ahí se remonta el texto a las célebres “Constituciones del gran gobernador Sancho Panza”, que sitúa en su contexto histórico real, y concluye con unas observaciones generales sobre las condiciones de realización de tales comunas utópicas y sobre las posibilidades y límites de los proyectos de “buen gobierno”.

The author brings to mind the foundation of the Argentinian town of Villa Gesell by the visionary Carlos Gesell. He did it partly under the influence of the utopia laid out by his father, the German Silvio Gesell, in his book "La isla milagrosa" -an island to which he just gave the name of Barataria. From there, the text goes back to the celebrated "Constitutions of the Great Governor Sancho Panza", which are set in their real historical context. He concludes with some general remarks about the conditions to carry such utopian communes through and on the possibilities and limits of "good governance" projects.
