La educación cívica como herramienta para construir y fortalecer la democracia y el Estado de Derecho
En este artículo se analiza la utilización de la educación cívica y en valores democráticos como instrumento para combatir la desafección de los ciudadanos hacia las instituciones democráticas. A partir del estudio de las iniciativas internacionales y particularmente las del ámbito europeo, se estudian cuáles deben ser los contenidos de este tipo de educación, y qué problemas pueden surgir a la hora de concretarlos. Finalmente, se formulan algunas propuestas sobre los elementos básicos que deberían formar parte de esta materia.
This article analyses the use of civic education and education in democratic values as an instrument to combat citizens’ disaffection towards democratic institutions. Based on a study of international initiatives, particularly those at European level, it examines what the contents of this type of education should be, and what problems may arise when it comes to putting them into practice. Finally, some proposals are made on the basic elements that should form part of this subject.
