The “Proximity Policing Against Racism, Xenophobia and Other Forms of Intolerance” project relates precisely to these aspects, focusing on what could be the contribution of the Police, and in particular of the proximity police, in reading and understanding these phenomena, in order to prevent and combat them. The role of proximity policing is crucial in tackling outbreaks of racism, xenophobia, and other forms of intolerance and violence that occur in European cities. The Police have or could have2 a privileged position to prevent, identify and detect xenophobic, racist and other intolerant incidents, because of their closeness to citizens, public local services and communities.
